Areas of Concern - Safety |
Many of the problems faced by the military for safety are the same faced by their civilian counterparts.
The PHA and HAZOP studies should include, but not be limited to, the following concerns:
- Onsite hazardous waste programs
- Handling and storage of toxic, flammable or volatile chemicals
- Handling and storage of biological hazardous material
- Handling and storage of nuclear material
- Perform laboratory and facility safety
- Specialized safety training
- Incident and spill response
- Transportation of chemicals
The workplace risk assessments should include, but not be limited, to the following concerns:
- Unplanned maintenance of machinery is a major cause of high-risk events
- Skilled employees must often bypass machine safeguards to carry out maintenance
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome from highly repetitive tasks
- Robotic standards such as ANSI/RIA R15.06-1999 require high safety standards control circuit equipment
- Lifting heavy weights
- Oil, grease, and grime often are present
- Exposure to solvents, paints, and coatings
- Working in areas of high noise levels
- Working in confined areas
- Working at heights
In addition, the military has additional areas of concern:
- Weapons handling and storage
- Repair and maintenance of munitions
- Working in a war zone
