The Utilities industry has several areas of concern for risk management:

- Handling and storage of biological, radioactive, and chemical substances
- Perform laboratory and facility safety
- Specialized safety trainings
- Incident and spill response
- Job/task hazard risk assessments
- Gas Lines
- Power (electrical) lines
- Sewage lines
- Safety of drinking water
The Utilities industry has several areas of concern for worker safety:
- Frequent maintenance of equipment creates high injury potential
- Electrical shock injury when servicing power grid, hydro lines
- Chemical / Biologics from sewage treatment facilities, chlorine hazard plus environmental impact could occur – e coli hazard to community
- Fall injury from servicing utility lines, clearing tree branches from power lines
- Job Safety Analysis is sometimes a requirement when hiring subcontractors; the JSA becomes part of the work order helping to reduce liability.
