Design & Implementation of a PSM Program |
Course #109/129 |
Course Description
There are 2 standards that cover Process Safety Management (PSM) - OSHA’s PSM Standard 29 CFR 1910.119, and EPA’s Risk Management Program 40 CFR 68. Both require that a Process Safety Management Program be in place. OSHA is concerned with the safety and health of the workers, while the EPA is concerned with the protection of the public and the environment. Both regulations provide guidelines on what should be covered by the program, but neither defines the structure of the program. Since the regulations provide only guidelines, companies must set up their own PSM program to meet both regulatory and non-regulatory targets, and as a result they are often unsure on whether they are in full compliance with the regulations.
