Gustavo Silva, the recently appointed Director of Operations of Dyadem's new Houston location, has over 30 years of domestic and international leadership experience in the fields of safety and process risk management and will be presenting on Facility Siting.

Abstract:
Abstract: When occupied buildings are located near process facilities, the occupants can be exposed to effects of potential hazards, such as fire, explosion, and toxic materials. In order to determine the safe location of an occupied building, it is essential to define what is meant by safe. The term safe is very much related to risk, which is treated as the inverse of safe. The question of "How safe is safe for the occupants?" really means, "How much risk is acceptable for the occupants?" Dyadem's Silva will present a paper that analyzes both risk-based and consequence-based approaches to locating facilities.
The Mary Kay O'Connor Process Safety Center was established in 1995 through the generosity of Houston businessman T. Michael O'Connor. His vision and the mission of the Center is to improve safety in the chemical process industry. The Center conducts programs and research activities that enhance safety in the chemical process industries, and conducts educational activities promoting safety as second nature.
